International Workshop on Smart Sensor Networks & Applications 2017

July 19 - 20, 2017
Cambridge,     UK

Held in conjunction with International Conference on Future Networks & Distributed Systems (ICFNDS 2017)

International Workshop on Smart Sensor Networks & Applications

The aim of this workshop is to bring together researchers, academics and scholars to the forefront of research activity on smart Wireless Sensor Networks. The specific profile of this workshop is to promote the state-of-the-art in scientific and practical research of the sensors technologies and examine the research opportunities and applications. The workshop is an excellent opportunity to present the current challenges and future opportunities in building smart sensor networks and new wireless architectures in an efficient and sustainable way. Overall the goal is to provide a thorough overview of the main topics about smart sensor technologies and their envisioned integration.

International speakers from academia and industry will give lectures tailoring their research field for an interdisciplinary audience. During the workshop, a dedicated discussion panel will bring into focus the collaboration between academia and industry in order to depict the future vision of smart sensors. Participants from the fields of computer sciences, information systems and communication technology will find an excellent opportunity to participate in interdisciplinary discussions, set up new networks and exchange information on a professional level. This workshop will allow participants to be exposed to cutting edge results in one of the most challenging research area, while at the same time enjoying the relaxing atmosphere of Cambridge city.

Best papers from ICFNDS'17 will be invited to subit to the following special issues:
  1. "Software Defined Networking: Trends, Challenges and Prospective Smart Solutions" in the
Peer to Peer Networking and Applications Journal by Springer (IF: 1.0)
  2. "Smart Standards, Algorithms and Frameworks for Interoperability in Internet of Things", in the
  Journal of Information Processing Systems
  3. "Sensor and Actuator Networks for Smart Cities" in the Journal of Sensor and Actuator Networks

Bamidele Adebisi

Bamidele Adebisi (Director of Engineering Materials Research Centre, Manchester Metropolitan University, UK). He received his Master’s degree in advanced mobile communication engineering and Ph.D. in communication systems from Lancaster University, UK, in 2003 and 2009, respectively. Before that, he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria, in 1999. He was a senior research associate in the School of Computing and Communication, Lancaster University between 2005 and 2012. He joined Manchester Metropolitan University, Manchester in 2012 where he is currently a Reader (Associate Professor) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. He has worked on several commercial and government projects focusing on various aspects of wireline and wireless communications. He is particularly interested in Research and Development of communication technologies for electrical energy monitoring/ management, transport, water, critical infrastructures protection, home automation, IoTs and cyber physical systems. He has several publications and patent in the research area of data communications over power line networks and smart grid/homes/cities. In January 2017, he successfully completed a UK research council funded project ‘Smart in-building Micro-grid for Energy Management’ that received the Manchester Met University outstanding project of the year award. Bamidele is also an investigator of Triangulum, a (€24M) H2020 Smart Cities and Communities project as well as a co-investigator of City Verve, a £10M UK government funded project on IoT for on smart cities. He is a Chartered Engineer and a senior member of IEEE.
